What is the Exchange?
The Exchange is the U.S. military department store, run by the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES). Shopping is tax free for authorized patrons, and the earnings help fund military quality of life programs. Near Ramstein it covers most of what a hotel or the commissary does not: clothing, electronics, home goods, and everyday essentials.
The main Exchange at the KMCC
The main Base Exchange, often called the BX or PX, sits inside the Kaiserslautern Military Community Center (KMCC) at Ramstein Air Base. It is the largest AAFES store in the world, with a broad range of goods, a food court, and services under one roof. For newcomers it is a practical first stop to pick up what you need after arrival.
